How to best care for your Bamboo

Planting Bamboo

  • Make a hole in the ground that is wider than the size of the pot's circumference.
  • Take the plant away from the pot. In case the bamboo plant doesn’t go out easily, you may need to cut the pot.
  • Place the plant in the hole so that the plant soil level is equal to the level of the existing soil.
  • Mix the existing soil with rich topsoil or manure compost and fill in the gap from the previous one. Ensure there is no air pocket around the root ball.
  • The best way to water your bamboo is to do it often, but don't keep it under water constantly. Be sure to have good drainage so that the water seeps deep but the plant is never standing in water after a few hours. Leaf rolling is a sign that your bamboo is under-watered. Yellow leaves but most of the time the plant stays open - maybe too much watering or the roots are rotting. This is a less common mistake, however, during the establishment phase, irrigation is probably the main cause. You have to keep watering for at least a month to get the roots to be deeply anchored. Apart from their care-intensive nature overall, tropical bamboos can be regarded as the least difficult of plants to cultivate. Therefore, growing them is not really a problem.
  • Apply the mulch around your bamboo and also bear in mind to always have a good layer of mulch. Use a palm or bamboo fertilizer every three or four months for fertilizing.
